7th ANNUAL MAXEY CLASSIC CAR SHOW
Record Turnout as Poor Weather Holds Off

The 7th annual Maxey Classic Car Show took place at its traditional lakeside venue off Quarry Lane, Maxey on Saturday 18 August 2007.

The 2007 Winner of Best in Show and Best 1950's vehicle was this beautiful and elegant 1953 Bently Type 'R'' owned and restored by Norman Geeson of Orton Waterville, Peterborough.

After such unpredictable weather this summer it was anyone's guess what show day would bring.

A light rain from 5.00 am or so cleared up by 7.00 am. and it was was all systems go by opening time for the viewing public at 11.00 am.

Many show cars had already taken their place from as early as 9.00 am, some travelling from as far afield as Leicester and Manchester.

The show regularly attracts over 300 classic vehicles and this year was no exception. In fact the show organiser, Pat Summers, was able to reveal that there was a record turnout this year despite the uncertainty of the weather with an estimated 1,000 visitors paying at the gate (drivers of cars entered in the show are always admitted free of charge).

The organisers - Maxey Blue Bell Charity Club - were delighted to learn that many of the attending car clubs now use the Maxey Car Show as their main club meet of the year.

This time around there were auto-jumble and car boot stalls placed on the edge of the show area as well as specialist auto-oriented book stalls, hot food outlets and a bar.

The Big Grin Band entertained the crowds with their mix of classic rock standards.

A fantastic total of £1,500.00 ‘profit’ was raised from the event - all the judges and volunteers on the gate and in the arena give their time for free - and this will be distributed (along with other monies collected throughout the year) in January 2008 to local charities and good causes.

Main organiser, Pat Summers, said:
"All money raised is given to charity and therefore not too commercial, with any trade stand attending donating to the event. The Maxey Car Show seems to owe its success to the fact that it is a very friendly show with no need to pre-book and every car or motorbike if it is old, unusual, or just spectacular is welcome."

During the course of the day, the Judges had been busy assessing the vehicles entered in the show. By 3.00 pm the decisions had been made and the category winners assembled for the traditional parade past the main marquee to receive their awards.

EMAP journalist and local resident John Pearson was the MC for this part of the show and one of the original founders of the event, Keith Elliott, handed out the prizes.

A special prize of a packet of sweets was made to D’Arcy Bond and her friend Sophie who made their own special car to take to the show.
